Jerry Lewis has pretty amazing comic timing, whether you love or hate him, his ability to set up the clarity of a gag is incredible.
He also has an innate sense of musical timing, which is why he's able to to this sort of thing.
What's interesting is that he doesn't hit everything with the same level of intensity...there's a lot of half beats to the hands that combine with his head movements. Also watch how he blurs his motions into less distinct actions during the busier sections.
Also relevant is when he comes in to the clear, strong notes - like around :41..the point works because he builds up such clear anticipation.
Very interesting video ....it kinda reminds me of those bugs bunny musicals . I like the timing of the actions which kinda mimics the beats but i felt in certain shots he started the action before the music started like half second before am not sure if it was on purpose or it was a mistake.
I remember Eric Goldberg came to AAU for a talk last year and spoke about his work on Genie - how he managed to hit so many 'moments' so quickly while animating to music.
He gave the example of many comedians like Jerry Lewis, Charlie Chaplin, Lauren and Hardy etc - and now that Balaji pointed out - I remember he said the action doesn't need to start on the beat, but the main pose should hit the beat (and the action should start whenever it's believably going to hit the pose on the beat)
Sad, it's easier written than done. I need to go back and fix my own clip ;-)
