survey

Turned this into an anonymous poll to the right....
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

quick question...how many of you feel you had enough time on the recent assignment?

//addendum
I ask because most of you didn't get as far as I'd hoped. Now that we're about at the halfway mark  I'm going to start evaluating doing longer exercises. I'm of two minds on it though...we are going to get into longer exercises...I just want to make sure you feel you're learning from these shorter pieces.

My rationale...shorter pieces force you to make decisions. When I used to have 3 weeks on a cycle, it would get to 60% the first week, then about 65% the second week, then maybe 68% the third week. Whenever I've done a 1 week exercise, they all come in at about 75% right off the bat.

Stay tuned for more syllabus info soon, and let me know your thoughts on how these have been going for you all.

  1. With most other rigs I would say yes. For some reason it takes me longer with Hogan's arms.

  2. Ideally 2 weeks are more than enough for this, but I'm only able to devote one day (10-12 hours) per week to this class. Rest of the time I'm busy working on my thesis (Final Review in December)

  3. Sorry...blaming the rig is never a valid excuse...:)

    I'll bring in some rigs with 400 controls that get 5 fps that I had to meet daily deadlines on.

  4. I am just giving you a hard time. Please don't give me the 500 control rig... D-:

  5. I think two weeks is time enough, but I have not been able to give as much time as I would have liked to.

  7. i think two weeks has been fine so far, although i agree with nathan that the hogan rig does seem less user-friendly than norman.

  9. I think its because most of us are more used to using Norman, and Norman does have relatively normal human proportions. Like Saberi pointed out, Hogan has irregularely long limbs that need getting used to. I think two weeks is more than enough time once we get used to a rig. Does Hogan have scripts and shelves like Norman?

  10. I like the fact that we've been made to use different rigs. It was initially frustrating, but it's good to be diverse. I really like the fact that we have shorter 1-2 week assignments. I think at this level it's really important that we focus on refining our mechanics and doing a variety of short projects forces us to work quicker to solve problems that we may normally put off to a later date, thus helping us grow technically.
    Plus after we learn something it's always nice to have a fresh start to try it out on instead of trying to implement it into an already near complete animation.

  11. I think one week exercise is good for me. Cause the midpoint date is getting closer, I just can assign one day about 12 hours totally to the assignment. And I'm totally agree with what you said. Although you gave us more time to refine our animation, I have troubles that when I spend two weeks to do this homework, sometimes I will get stuck on that. Shorter assignments sounds better.
